There are practical ways to reduce the closed-window cooling load. Close blinds or curtains before direct afternoon sun reaches the glass. Keep supply and return openings clear. Limit unnecessary use of ovens, dryers, and other heat-producing appliances during the hottest hours. Check current air-quality information rather than assuming that a smoky smell or a clear-looking sky tells the whole story. Ventilate only when outdoor conditions improve.
